Hiking in the Stelvio National Park
At the South Tyrolean Hiking Hotel Burgaunerhof
The Stelvio National Park in South Tyrol, located partly in the Martello Valley in the Vinschgau / Venosta Valley, is one of the largest protected alpine areas in Europe. Covering 134,620 hectares, it stretches across the Italian provinces of South Tyrol, Trentino, Brescia and Sondrio.
The park is named after the famous Stelvio Pass (2,757 m) – the highest paved mountain pass in the Alps. Since 1935, this spectacular alpine landscape has been protected as a national park.
At the heart of the park lies the impressive Ortler–Cevedale mountain range, home to some of the highest peaks of the Central Alps. However, the fascination of this region goes far beyond its dramatic summits. The park is also renowned for its untouched nature, glaciers, alpine meadows and exceptional biodiversity.
During your hiking holiday in South Tyrol, you may encounter rare alpine wildlife such as ibex, golden eagles and the majestic bearded vulture.
The vast Stelvio National Park is a true paradise for hikers and mountain lovers.
With its pristine landscapes and countless hiking opportunities, it offers unforgettable experiences in the heart of the Alps.
Thanks to its size and protected status, large parts of the park remain untouched by mass tourism, allowing visitors to enjoy authentic alpine nature.
